When a 13 year old boy charged with a number of burglaries involving electric drills and mobile phone, applied to be released on bail. The High court judge of Belfast ordered him to surrender his xbox to the authorities as part of bail conditions. The boy facing five counts of burglary and one attempted burglary in the Downpatrick area appeared in front of the court through a video link from a young offenders’ centre.

At one stage the judge asked the boy what it was that he owned which meant alot to him, the boy said it was his xbox. As a result the judge ordered that the boy can be freed on bail if he surrenders his xbox to the authorities within two days of his release. He will get it back once the charges are dropped. The boy was also ordered to be electronically tagged and banned from contacting his co-accused. The judge later told the boy that it will show him what it was like to have something he valued taken from him.
