Today Skype released a new version of their app for Android which brings two way video calling to the Android platform using both WiFi and 3G connections. With this new released app skype users will be able to make free 1 on 1 video calls among other android phones, skype users on iphone, Mac, Windows and even TVs. In addition to video calls users will also be able to call landlines & mobile phones and send SMS to their friends across the world on cheap skype rate. The new version also has a overhauled and improved UI.

Right now the update is only available for devices having a front camera and running Android 2.3 i.e. HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo/pro, Google nexsus S. But skype says it will add support for other devices too.

“We are committed to bring Skype Video Calling to as many platforms as possible and are delighted to deliver on this with our new updated Skype for Android app. With approximately 30 million concurrent users logging into Skype at any given time and making up to half a million simultaneous video calls, Skype for Android with video makes it even easier for users to share moments with their contacts wherever they are.”

said Neil Stevens, Skype’s vice president and general manager for product and marketing.

It is worth mentioning that more then half a million users activate new android devices each day and the numbers are growing at a rate of 4.4% per week. Now Skype will be available to all the users of the fastest growing mobile platform.
