What’s new in Opera 11.50?

Opera released its next version of browser i.e. Opera 11.50 after the silence of almost 6 months. Opera is clearly a underdog in browser market currently enjoying 2.4% share behind IE, Firefox, Chrome & Safari.

Lets now look at what Opera has to offer for this version.

Speed Dial Extension:

You can Preview your favorite sites every time you open a new tab rather than just static thumbnail and open them with a click. You can set the layout and the background you prefer and add useful extensions that can show useful, live information.

Tab Stacking:

This is the one feature I like the most, dragging one tab over another allows you to create groups of tabs. Now, you can keep dozens of web-pages open, organized and under control.  Best thing of tab stacking is intuitive navigational options.

Password Synchronization:

The browser implements strong security so passwords are encrypted on the client using your Opera account password and a randomly generated key. No password is ever stored or transmitted as plain text.

Under the Hood:

Opera has fixed various issues related CSS & SVG rendering. Now it has cutting edge of HTML5 and it now supports Session History and Navigation, the W3C File API, classlist and the <time> element.

First Hand Experience

All in all, I have never been much of user of Opera due to various reasons i.e. developer extensions, some rendering issues with various sites etc. But with this current release. Its look quite promising for the reasons i.e.

1. Featherweight light UI. Browser is quicker to install & load. Pages are being loaded quite quickly.

2.  You can have private tab browsing as oppose to only private window browsing. So you can manage multiple accounts side by side, with stacked tab option, it can also be grouped combined. This is the only feature which stands out for me.

3. Speed dialer is also a promising addition.

So, I can safely say that it can be an alternative choice for non-development browsing experience.

Detailed list of features can be viewed at Opera.
